Should i buy xenogears

This tactic is required to beat the game's hardest enemy winning the fight is optional. The second major tip is to abuse ether attacks. On my first playthough, I thought they were quite weak. However, if properly configured you'll end up one-shotting most enemies. Two items help you significantly: an ether doubler, and power magics. There are, I think, two ether doublers you can pick up in the game, but it's possible to pick up one when you reach Nisan, until you pass a point of no return in a certain tower.

It costs 40,, and while it's possible to purchase little to no upgrades and just save up for it, you may prefer just grinding for cash for 20 minutes in the desert south of kislev or against oceanic enemies once you can travel the oceans.

Like it's name suggests, the ether doubler doubles the power of your ether attack. You'll want to stick this on Elly early on, and maybe Billy when he gets a certain attack later. Elly's aerods attack will do terrible, terrible damage.

Power magics can be purchased later on Aphel Aura not using the main name to avoid spoilers. You'll know when you get there-just find the gear shop and boost ether attacks for gears specifically. It stacks quite well with the ether doubler and with just two equipped you'll soon be doing damage per attack. Any gear's special attack is affected, as are ether spells and even Billy's square attack which will alone shot most normal enemies for a scant 20 fuel.

Lastly, any character items that boost ether will affect the gear somewhat, too. Also, remember to us booster for boss battles. If you kill enemies faster, you'll take less damage and rarely need to use a healing accessory.

So there you have it. Some encounters will require special tactics, but I'm sure you'll figure out how easily enough. On to the character tips! OK, character tips. Ah shoot, it's going to be long. The post after this one has the 'gamebreaking' strats, not just general tips. First off, a big thing, and a pet peeve of mine: don't worry about your level. The stat gains are random for each level and if you look at what you usually gain, the benefit for a single level is minimal.

Some abilities have a level requirement, but it's usually pretty low, and most of the abilities you don't need, and the ones that you do need the characters start with. Deathblows have a tougher requirement, going level 59 for the highest, but most of the 6AP deathblows' requirements are pretty low.

All of this is good news for your purposes: you can run away from fights the encounter rate is kinda high and not feel like you're hurting yourself. There are so many bosses that you'll gain plenty of levels anyways even if you run away from enemies. Tip two: oh, but don't run away from every fight.

Learning deathblows is crucial as they're the key to your offense. Fidormula's deathblow guid on the FAQ page is comprehensive, but basically you learn them by using a certain number of triangle, square, and X attacks. You can get by with fighting random enemies with regular enemies with regular attacks until you notice that you have no more deathblows to learn at your current level. Alternately, once your gears are a little strong, you can find gear sized enemies on the map, dismount one or two characters and go to town.

The mob will attack the gear only, dealing 1 damage, and letting your characters get free attacks off. You can feasibly learn every deathblow in the game off a handful of fights. This game for the most part is excellent. Its story hooks you right from the get go and the combat is rather varied for a turn based rpg.

Great characters and great story too. The combat is turn based, however for some of the fights you will fight using the characters themselves and you push the buttons in certain order to perform super attacks that you can chain together for deadly result. The other fighting involves mech warriors the characters pilot called gears, and while the fighting doesn't have quite the combos in this form you do get to do very devastating attacks to your opponent.

The game features cut scenes ala final fantasy, however, with the exception of the first one most are done in an anime style. The story follows a young man whose tiny town is invaded by warring nations and who becomes involved with a rebel group to take back one of the countries at war. However, not all is as it seems as secrets are learned and outside forces trying to help one country over the other have appeared.

There are a lot of mystery's to unravel, a super powered villain out to destroy seemingly everything, and people with differing motives to be found.

Yes, this game would nearly be perfect until the start of the second disc and from here on out the game seems a tad rushed as you basically get told what is happening without any involvement in some areas and you must fight a little in others. I am guessing the makers of this game were pushed into releasing the game a bit faster than they wanted. Still after awhile you take control of the game again and it once again becomes very good, just a shame that this one section of the story had to unfold the way it did.

It's hard to choose between this and Super Metroid as my personal favorite game of all time, but I'm probably leaning towards choosing this game because of its length and for it being one of the few games to actually make me think Anyway, this is a perfect game from every angle. The music, the characters, the battles, pretty much anything that you could find flaws in any other game is perfect in this game.

The main selling point, of course, is the multi-layered and very convoluted storyline. Though obviously very indebted to Evangelion, the 70 hours or so of story in this game is full of plot twists and shocking revelations about humanity, existence, God, love, death, and everything else in between.

Not your typical RPG fare by any stretch of the imagination. Also, don't listen to people who say disc 2 sucks Just a perfect game When people think of RPG video games from the late 90s the first thing that comes to mind is Squaresoft's "Final Fantasy 7". But while I think that "Final Fantasy 7" is a great game and a classic, I also think that it gets too much credit and not enough goes to "Xenogears" released back in also made by Squaresoft.

Xenogears follows the story of amnesiac Fei Fong Wong who lives an ordinary life in the village of Lahan that took him in three years ago after a mysterious masked man brought him. One day when he is preparing for a best friend's wedding, enemy mechas from different countries dubbed Gears take their battle to the village.

In the ensuing battle Fei takes an empty Gear and fights the enemy fighters to protect the village and his best friend is killed in the crossfire. This causes a dormant personality to awaken and he ends up destroying the enemy fighters along with the entire village. Afterword he has no recollection of the events and as a result leaves Lahan and takes the Gear with him from the surviving villagers.

Acompanying him is the town's doctor Citan who has a mysterious past and thus Fei's journey begins. It plays out more like a novel which surprisingly it does because more than half the time you're just reading dialog from each character in many cut scenes. But that doesn't detract from the game play not one bit. The characters are just fantastic and the most well written and three dimensional characters that I have seen in a video game.

The graphics are dated but the atmosphere, mood, tone and anime like character style more than make up for it giving that timeless quality.

Some of the cut scenes in this game are drawn in great anime style but my one complaint is that in the English version the character lip syncing is off and looks awkward. But other than that the game is just spectacular. As for music well, when you have Yasunori Mitsuda as the music composer you know you've got a masterpiece because the music is just extraordinary and very memorable.

As for game play, its quite unique in its battle system. In the REATBS you use three button attacks to deal martial arts combination damage to your enemy's HP, attack combos to deal even greater damage when you level up and ether magic. In the GBS you use special attacks from each specific Gear causing great damage to your enemy's HP but the catch is that each time you cause damage to an enemy, your character's Gear burns up fuel.

The runtime for this game is at least over 40 hours spanning the course of 2 disks. This game was directed by Tetsuya Takahashi who is best known for his graphic design work on "Final Fantasy 4,5,6,7","Chrono Trigger" and directing for the "Xenosaga" spin off series.

I cannot recommend this game enough because it is just that good. Don't let the dated graphics discourage you and let yourself be immersed in probably the best if not the best RPG of the 90s. This is a fantastic role playing game, one that grabs you with its story and doesn't let go. This has many layers of depth, and it sometimes gets convoluted.

It's about religion. It's about one man's quest to find his past. It's about true love. It's about government conspiracies. It's about a mysterious evil. It's about genetic experiments. The magic system is weak, but the fighting system more than makes up for it. It kicks butt! I find this more satisfying.

Don't let anybody tell you this game is overrated, too huge, or too complicated. This game is really beefy and requires a certain mindset. Maybe not everybody will have that mindset, but play it and judge for yourself. And if anybody is wondering why this looks like a ripoff of Neon Genesis Evangelion, it's not. The writers of Neon Genesis helped create the story for Xenogears. Log In Sign Up. Keep me logged in on this device Forgot your username or password? Don't have an account?

Here are the main reasons I am longing for a Xenogears Remake. The plot Xenogears did not play it safe, taking the risky move of addressing religion, along with questions of philosophy and psychology. The battle spectacles with next-gen graphics Xenogears chose an unusual amalgamation of 3D maps and 2D character sprites, which generally worked pretty well.

The reception Xenogears was received to almost unanimous acclaim. IGN and GameInformer both have Xenogears in their top 50, but it most commonly falls short of the upper echelons due to its rushed conclusion… They can finally complete disk 2 Speaking of which, one of the most controversial elements of Xenogears was its second disk.

RELATED: Final Fantasy 7 Remake — 50 things you may not know And also patch up some translation issues The brilliant plot of Xenogears unfortunately has a tendency to get short-changed by some haphazard translations to English, that undercut some scenes and made matters more confusing. The Xeno name has grown There is no direct narrative connection between Xenogears and the Xenoblade Chronicles games, but their critical and commercial success in recent years may just point to an appetite to see more from them.
